So today on our project Wiki pages, I was the first to write on the social page and decided to describe myself a little. I didn't give too much information but I told them that if they had any other questions to feel free and ask. I'm excited to get to know other people, especially from different colleges and town that are interested in the same field that I am. I have lived in Emporia all of my life so it will be interesting to hear from and communicate with students who are from a different place and have different experiences!!

I found the research we talked about very interesting. I made notes about focus groups- which are a group of people (8-13) who focus on a subject and find out as much about it as they can .A moderator asks questions during the discussion.
A good moderator is something she said to be very important. They need to be uncontrolling but inclusive. A good moderator will make good online discussion, and they are able to hear and see the value of differing opinions.
Online- with the help of a good moderator the focus group was able to be successful. And also, in face to face interation a community was able to form, which transfered the energy to online communication.
A good leader is someone that is a good communicator, has positive nonverbal appearance and cues, cannot be arrogant but have self-confidence. They also need to be a transformational leader, have a good character meaning truthful in past actions, need to be able to empathize with the common people, and also have good values regarding compromise.
I found our discussion to be very informative and interesting, and it really interested me in finding out more about the different elections regarding the communication behind them, and the forums and focus groups that took place because of them!

So, today I went on my site and found a link that said LIVECHAT! -2 members chatting. So I clicked on it and it took me to a window where people where chatting. I thought this would be a great idea because I haven't met anyone on my site, and no one had asked to be my friend, or become a fan of my profile. So I decided to join the chatbox, and it asked me before I could enter, what my gender was and also my age. I thought that odd, and I wonder if I would've said I was under 18 if they would've let me chat? Anywho, I told the chatters that I was reviewing the site for a class and asked if they had any suggestions for me and if there was anything cool that I didn't know about yet? Everyone ignored me!! I couldn't beleive it. They just kept talking about their relationships, past, experiences, and other things on the site. rude! I thought it was weird because I could see everything they were talking about, yet no one would talk to me! I thought this was a great example of the social community on the site. I've been a member for a little over 2 weeks now and haven't made any contacts through the site. The community on fanpop.com is created and established by those who join certain "spots" to be fans of. Once you join this spot, you are a member of that community and have opportunites to talk to other fans of that spot. It is maintained by the people who use those spots and the applications on it, and also by the website creators. I don't know how anyone can tell I am a newbie, but no one wants anything to do with me:(. I'm an outsider!

Today, I checked out my roommates facebook page and analyzed it.
Some aspects about her page that she displayed were that she is in relationship, she is a methodist-christian, her 21st birthday is exactly 20 days from today. She has a lot of friends from many different colleges and networks, and has recent writes on her wall.
Some of her interests include music, athletics, friends, kitties, family, snowboarding, and having a good time. I think that her profile really displays who she is to many people, but I don't think that her page really captures who she is. Her outgoing, lovable, easy to talk to, laid-back, personality is not displayed and this is unfortunate because it is the most important thing about her. I think this is true about many people's profiles and pages, they display the outter layers of someone's personality; however, not the inner most important part of who they are.

Hello again,
Today I spent a while on my site that I am reviewing. I have found that it's really not that exciting. There is only a limited amount of things to do on the site. After you join, there are tabs at the top of your home page including: Profile, Spots, Quizzes, Picks, Favorites, Activity, Fans, Props, and Messages. The profile tab just takes you to your own profile where your picture, personal information, and the overview of your activity is displayed. Spots are the tv programs, music, movies, etc that you are a fan of and have joined. Quizzes are where the quizzes you have taken are displayed as well as quizzes available from your spots are presented to you. Picks include many polls that other people have made on the site that you have participated in and displays the choice that you picked in those polls. Favorites are just certain sites or fan blogs that you have picked and marked as your favorites for faster access. Activity is just a recent blog of what you have looked at and also any of the contribitions that you have made to other fan links. The Fans tab is a list of fans that you have added so that you can see other fans contributions and suggestions. Props are a list of fans props that other members have given you for your contributions to the site or your opinion and Messages is just an inbox where other site members can contact you.
Because I haven't been a member for very long no one has looked at anything I have contributed, and I haven't made any contacts with any other members. Maybe thats why it is so boring?

Hey all,
Tonight I got on my website for the site review and starting spending some time on it to figure out what it's all about. I joined fanpop.com, which is a website devoted to fans of several shows, movies, music, etc. Today I signed up and created a profile, which is equipped with an inbox, about me, and other perks so other users can get to know me as well as communicate with me. So far, I have only rated a couple movies and joined a couple "spots" as they call it. These "spots" are dedicated to the different shows and music where you can take quizzes, rate episodes, and talk to other fans. I think it won't be too bad, spending some time on the site. Wish me luck!!

Personal Computer Story

The moment that computers began impacting my life was in fifth grade. At that time, all of my friends were members of Yahoo! Messenger and every night when I would come home from school we would all instant message each other. Also, in seventh grade in Connect class, I remember playing Oregon Trail every Friday and also wokring throughout the class period on typing programs and perfecting the home row. In high school, we were required to take Computer Application, which was a course who taught us how to use Microsoft Office, make resume's, improve typing accuracy and speed, and also taught the various functions of the internet. Since I come from a family of six, my three other siblings and I always fought over the computer. My brother was a gamer, my sister was in MySpace, and my other sister was into Yahoo! and MSN Messenger. Since then, my computer education has improved immensely as well as expanding my usage.
Right now, the main reason I use the computer is for educational purposes; such as typing papers, ordering textbooks, emailing teachers, etc. However; in the last couple years I have been an avid Facebook-er because it is a really good way to keep in touch with high school friends that have moved away to attend college. Also, I keep in touch with relatives that live in other towns and states through email, which is a really great way to connect with them. I have yet to buy a laptop since I have entered school. I do think I could really use one, but I make good use of the libraries free computers as well as my friend's laptops. The computer and also the internet's importance in my life has certainly grown and I can only project that its importance will increase as I grow older.
